What does PBwiki do?

Wikis are collaborative websites that lots of people can edit (Wikipedia is an example of a wiki-as-encyclopedia). You might use a wiki to plan a project or create an online classroom. Instead of sending 50 emails to coordinate something, you put files and pages in one secure place and let your team collaborate online. Try it out: You can create a PBwiki as easily as a peanut butter sandwich at PBwiki.com.
Want to know more? Here’s a great demo of how wikis work. And in 2007, "wiki" was searched for more than "blog."

Key PBwiki stats:

400% annualized revenue growth since inception in 2005

Over 350% growth in the # of wikis hosted since last year

We host collaboration for over 50,000 businesses and 250,000 educators, plus millions of individual users

Small, growing team of 25 based in San Mateo, with a sales office in New Hampshire

We raised a few million in venture capital from firms like Mohr Davidow Ventures

The job: Senior Web Engineer

We’re not so much concerned about whether you are an expert in front-end or back-end technologies, but you must “know thy web”. You’ve done some impressive web-related work you can tell us about, either on the job or on your own. You should also be a kick-ass programmer.

What makes you tick? We want you to be energetic, passionate about technology, know what a wiki is, and enjoy working with a small team of brilliant people. A great match for us:

* Helpful to know any of: LAMP, PHP, XHTML, Javascript, AJAX, CSS and/or MySQL
* Scalability, Performance and Security expertise a plus if you consider yourself more back-end

* Familiarity with Agile environment, Unit Testing a plus

* Demonstrable communication skills (written and verbal)
* Collaborative style
* Entrepreneurial spirit

Benefits of working at PBwiki

Dress is casual and compensation is competitive. Also, we have free lunches/espresso, gym memberships, and stock options for each employee. We really value you getting to know your co-workers, so if you want to take any other PBwiki co-worker out to lunch, we'll cover it. For fun, once a month we take the day off and do something fun, like indoor skydiving or a yacht tour of the Bay. And if you're not local to the Bay Area, we pay relocation expenses for extraordinary candidates. See a full list of the perks of working at PBwiki.

willingness to replace your job functions with perl/shell scripts where possible :)

ability to work under pressure

Our web application compliments our company's design strategy focus. We need someone who can come in and really own the development of this product. In a start-up business it all comes down to momentum—how do you release something fast to your customers that works? You have to be comfortable with change and not fall in love with your code. Mistakes are good, rapid iteration is great. You need to be articulate and a good writer so that the whole team 'gets it.'

This position is available immediately, pays competitively and is full-time. You'll be working in our offices in downtown Campbell, where we have parking spaces, a Wii and a good attitude. We're a creative, fun-loving, hard-working team and if you thrive on the energy (read: chaos) of a startup environment, you'll like ZURB.

We like fun projects and push each other to get better at our craft. With that said, here are the formal requirements: Send an e-mail to jobs@zurb.com that includes:

Companies like Skype, McAfee, The Wall Street Journal, and Pizza Hut use TrialPay to let their customers pay for their product by interacting with an advertiser. Scribd is a San Francisco startup backed by top investors including Redpoint Ventures, the Kinsey Hills Group, Y Combinator and a handful of Silicon Valley's most prestigious angel investors. We are a social publishing company that is changing the way people find, share and publish writings on the Web. Since Scribd launched in March 2007, it has become one of the top 500 websites on the Internet, receiving nearly 30 million monthly visitors. According to the Rails 100 list of the the most trafficked rails websites, Scribd is the largest rails website in the world: http://rails100.pbwiki.com/Alexa+Rankings.
Scribd created iPaper, the first document format built for the web. Like YouTube's player did for video formats, iPaper standardizes all document formats into one viewer that can be seamlessly integrated into webpages. Through Scribd.com, iPaper and the Scribd platform, Scribd is changing the say people view, publish and monetize documents. Through our vast library of content and our unique document display technology, we hope to unlock the information in the world's documents and make it readily accessible to everyone!

We are located in the heart of downtown San Francisco, close to CalTrain, BART and MUNI. Our small team is passionate, talented, motivated and fun. You'll often find us holding group brainstorming sessions, eating lunch and dinner as a team, playing winner-take-all ping-pong games and celebrating our successes along the way. We offer competitive salaries, benefits, generous equity stakes, flexible work hours, free food from local restaurants and a stocked break room.

The job:

This is a senior development role on the iPaper product. iPaper is the first full-featured web-based document viewer. For years, the standard in cross-platform document viewing has been Adobe PDF, a desktop software solution invented twenty years ago. iPaper is a new Flash-based document viewing standard that is positioned to shake up this billion dollar industry because it runs completely in a web browser and is faster and lighter than Acrobat. Despite the importance of iPaper, the team that works on it is still tiny, and you will have a huge impact on the product.

The ideal profile:

This is not a typical Flash programming role. iPaper is an unusually complex Flash application with many highly technical components. We are looking for someone who is a well-rounded computer scientist in addition to an expert Flash developer. This would be demonstrated by a CS degree, knowledge of more traditional programming environments, or projects which show deep engineering ability. We love to see candidates who have worked on impressive Flash applications that they can demonstrate for us. We favor candidates who can show us they have a keen product sense and will contribute good ideas for improving the product.

Responsibilities:

Extend and improve the iPaper product, adding new features and refining existing functionality. Think creatively about the future of iPaper, generate feature ideas, and integrate them into the product roadmap. Architect our internal document format, manipulate SWF byte-code directly, and solve difficult technical problems.

Qualifications:

* 1+ years experience with Flash and ActionScript
* Experience with Flex, AS 3.0, OOP, and Unit Testing
* Strong understanding of Flash's rendering process and optimization
* Experience integrating Flash with external APIs and Web Services
* Strong computer science fundamentals as evidenced by a CS degree or equivalent experience
* Knowledge of XHTML, CSS, JavaScript, SQL or C++ is a plus
